Splash Down! The Smithsonian Water/Ways Exhibit Arrives
Are you looking for fun things to do this summer in Citrus County? Well, we have you covered! The Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street exhibition, Water/Ways has splashed down at the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum!
Museum on Main Street is a program designed by the Smithsonian to bring high quality, interactive, and powerful museum exhibitions to small communities throughout the nation. We are honored to be the first of seven sites throughout the state of Florida selected to host the exhibition. This has been made available to us through a partnership between the Smithsonian and our state’s humanities council, the Florida Humanities.
The exhibition arrived a day late due to weather, but the museum’s dedicated volunteers and a group of kind helpers from Citrus County’s Grounds Maintenance, Parks and Recreation, and Transit departments, got everything built and installed in record time! Museum staff sends a big thank you to everyone who helped turn the exhibition from this:

To this:

The exhibition arrived unassembled in twenty crates, some weighting over 300 pounds. Luckily, they were all on wheels! Each component of the exhibit was packed individually and had to be carefully removed from the crates and assembled in the exhibition gallery in a specific order. With lots of teamwork, the pieces quickly began to come together into a beautiful and immersive display. Originally expecting installation to take anywhere from six to eight hours, our amazing crew had it done in three.
Thanks to all our volunteers and the county workers who made this all possible!
