In Memoriam: Remembering Our Volunteer, Joanie Knapp

Longtime museum volunteer Joanie Knapp passed away on July 14, 2022 at the age of 80. Joanie was dedicated to the museum and her community. She volunteered regularly, twice a week, at the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum for over 20 years, as well as helping out with special events. She was also an active volunteer with the Senior Health Activity Resource Education (SHARE Club), a member of the Newcomers Club in Inverness, and the NY Club of Florida. Wherever she went, she brought her laughter and sunny disposition with her. Joanie truly had the “gift of gab”; she could strike up a conversation with anyone she met.

If you have visited the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum in the last 20 years, chances are you’ve run into Joanie. Even though she volunteered here as a greeter, docent guide, and gift shop salesperson for so many years, her enthusiasm and joy in her work never waned. She was proud of her many years working at IBM in New York, but she loved her volunteer work especially. She would say that she worked because she had to, but she volunteered because she wanted to. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
