Free Coffee and Conversations on Those Bloody Pirates: The Golden Age of Piracy

June 8, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join us at The Old Courthouse Heritage Museum for a free talk by local historian from Floral City Heritage Council, Tom Ritchie, as he discusses “Those Bloody Pirates: The Golden Age of Piracy.” Free light refreshments. Please RSVP at (352) 341-6428 or register at the link below. During the 1600’s and 1700’s, piracy raged on the open seas as merchant ships and more were robbed for their cargo. In contrast to the movies, pirates were not lovable characters with hearts of gold. They were murderous sociopaths, but fascinating nonetheless. The Golden Age of Piracy is a common designation for the period between the 1650s and the 1730s, when maritime piracy was a significant factor in the histories of the North Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Join us to learn all about it and stop in to see our temporary “Florida Pirates” exhibit in the John Murray Davis rotating gallery inside the museum. Doors open at 6 pm for access to the museum after hours. Lecture begins at 7 pm.
