Free Coffee and Conversation: The Battle of Olustee

February 20, 2025 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join us for this interesting presentation with speaker Derek Vorobok on the anniversary of The Battle of Olustee. This was the largest battle fought in Florida during the American Civil War.
Complimentary refreshments will be served. Please RSVP for seating. Call the museum office between Tuesday and Saturday at (352) 341-6428.
In this battle, the opposing sides were evenly matched, but the casualties were disproportionately high, particularly for the Union forces. The brutal fighting of the battle produced one of the highest ratios of casualties per men engaged of the entire war. The engagement effectively curtailed a major Union offensive, and subsequent operations shifted elsewhere, once again making Florida a backwater theater in the war. The presentation will include authentic uniforms and equipment of the American Civil War.
