DESCRIPTION:The Old Courthouse Heritage Museum presents a Simple Embroidery class for adults on Tuesday\, November 18th at 10:30 am. The class will be taught by volunteers Mary and Tina from Citrus Friendship Quilters Guild. The craft is a holiday themed embroidery even beginners can do that reads “Merry Christmas\,” which is similar but not exactly the same as the one in this image.  A $5.00 fee will be collected at the door. Spaces are limited and class will likely fill up in advance so please be sure to preregister. To sign up\, call the museum office at (352) 341-6428.\n\nStreetside parking in Downtown Inverness is limited to 2 hours and they do ticket. We recommend parking in the parking lot to the East of the Old Courthouse across the street which is free all day.

Annette B. Fromm is a folklorist who specializes in ethnicity and immigrant cultures and has worked in museums for over 35 years. She has curated exhibits about Native American history and art\, and writes and speaks about multiculturalism and museums\, ethnographic museum practices\, and more. Most recently\, she led the graduate museum studies program at Florida International University.\nBe sure to stop in and see our temporary exhibit of the work of the local artists of artOasis here at the museum in the John Murray Davis gallery from Saturday\, January 2nd through Thursday\, March 5th of 2026. Please RSVP in advance by calling our office at (352) 341-6428.\n\nZora Neale Hurston is universally renowned for her brilliance as a novelist\, but her importance as a pioneering folklorist and ethnographer is routinely overlooked. This presentation examines Zora’s life and legacy from her training in cultural anthropology to the pioneering fieldwork she conducted in the 1930s. Focusing on her ethnographic masterpiece Mules and Men\, this presentation explores her work among African American musicians\, storytellers\, and craftspeople in her hometown of Eatonville\, Florida\, showing how Zora’s research was decades ahead of her time and inspired generations of scholars and artists.\nDr. Panayotis (Paddy) League is a musicologist\, author\, performer\, and composer specializing in the traditional music\, dance\, and oral poetry of the Greek island\, Brazil\, Ireland\, and the electric guitar music of the American South. Dr. League serves as Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology and the Director of the Center for the Music of Americas at Florida State University. He publishes and performs widely\, and was named a Master Artist by the Florida Folklife Program in 2019.
