SUMMARY:Free Coffee and Conversation: Motion Picture Paradise
DESCRIPTION:Free Coffee and Conversation with Dr. David Morton\, author of Motion Picture Paradise. Free coffee and light refreshments during this lecture open to the community. Please RSVP in advance by calling the museum office between Tuesday and Saturday at (352) 341-6428.\n\nMotion Picture Paradise is a sweeping story of filmmaking in Florida\, featuring studios and filmmakers across the peninsula by looking at the many iconic films and television shows shot in the state. In the early years of the American film industry\, Florida was a favorite location for pioneer movie makers\, and David Morton chronicles the state’s importance to producers through the next 125years.\n\nAbout the speaker:\nDavid Morton received his Ph.D. in Texts and Technology from the University of Central Florida in 2019\, where he also is an instructor in both History and Media Studies. He was a recipient of the 2016-17 Fulbright scholarship and serves as program director for the Flickering Landscapes Conference Series. His book\, A Motion Picture Paradise!: A History of Florida’s Film and Television Industry was published by the University Press of Florida in July 2024.\n\nThis Florida Talks program is a partnership between Florida Humanities and The Old Courthouse Heritage Museum. Funding for this program was provided by Florida Humanities and sponsored in part by the State of Florida\, Department of State\, Division of Arts and Culture and the National Endowment for the Arts.
